  • Marshall AVT 100 Clean Watts?

I've got a Marshall Valvestate AVT 100 on my bench. The customer is complaining that it suddenly lost volume on the clean channel (the distortion
    had no volume drop).

I tested the clean output with a 8ohm dummy load and scope and was able to obtain around 75 Watts.

That seems about right to me for a SS amp that advertises itself as a 100
    watter.

Is that about right or should it be putting out more clean watts?

He also complained about hiss on the OD channel. I was able to get it to hiss
but only if everything was cranked. The hiss didn't seem out of the ordinary
to me. Are these amps supposed to be hissless when cranked like that?

They may rate the amp into a 4 ohm load (common solid-state practice), so 75W into 8 ohms is probably just fine

Could still be a cracked solder or something that might lead to an intermittent volume drop...

I would say hiss and noise on a cranked dirty channel is pretty much unavoidable on any amp with lots of gain.

    Have fun!
