  • 43 AWG PE

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am looking to buy some 43 awg PE. I have called around and I cannot get just a pound of it with out getting slaughtered. Does anyone here have a pound or so they want to unload?

    I needed 42 & 43PE a year ago and I bought it from MWS.
I had to buy 5+ Pound rolls of each.
If your going to wind much its cheaper in the long haul to bite the bullet and get the big Roll.

This was the prices back in October.

    42 spn 7lb min $18.32
    42 hpn 6lb min $21.64 - heavy build poly
    42 heavy formvar 5 lb min $28.51
    44 spn 6lb min $28.34
    43 plain enamel 5lb min $36.96

AWG 43-Ga Plain Enamel Single Build Pickup Coil Wire 1/2 lb Spool

Personally for the same amount of money I'd get this:

AWG 43 Copper Magnet Wire SPN 155 Red - eBay (item 250797173824 end time Apr-07-11 07:52:02 PDT)

1/2LB vs. 1.56LB. PE is always expensive

I was considering picking up that one on eBay, but I cant decide whether PE is really worth the effort/cost.

If your just making pickups, use the SPN, if your making vintage pickups with exposed coils and the look is important, buy the PE.
PE is harder to wind by hand, its harder to see. Good Lighting is a must. Red SPN and Clear Formvar are the easiest to use.
The 43 PE and Spn should sound real close.

Thanks man, all I needed was a little added direction. I am gonna pick up some of that stuff on ebay. I am pretty excited about this new hobby. I normally build guitars, but the cost of making them is killing me.
