  • Bobbin Position - affect on output?

Hi, I have made a number of humbuckers, but have been experimenting with a new design. All sounds good on it, but it's a bit weak on output.

Could bobbins not being the same height have an affect on output? What if they aren't aligned top to bottom? - one higher than the other?

Any other comments or help is appreciated!

A taller bobbin a should have a brighter tone than a standard height bobbin ,but with the same number of turns as a shorter bobbin ,It will use less wire & can sound thin

Thank you. What if I have two different height bobbins on a humbucker?

I've made them that way, but I Shim the shorter one on the bottom so they are level on top.
My Hybrid Bucker that has one blade and one screw bobbin is that way.

Here's a picture of that one.
          The Screw bobbin is shorter.

Looks pretty much the same as mine. Mine measures 14.3K across the 2 bobbins. Just cant figure out why this thing is weak...sounds good, just weak.

Mine is 2 different gauges, and is about 13.5k.
It is sure not weak by any means.
Did you use a shim between the magnet and the blade bobbin.
a regular magnet is not wide enough and you have to make a steel shim.
If you don't it would probably be weak.

                    Glad I could help.
                    It doesn't take much Thickness.
Another option is a small piece of soft steel wire, like the old baling wire.
Something that fits snug in between the length of the magnet, and one bobbin.
On my hybrid I put the magnet against the bobbin with the most wire, and shim the lesser bobbin.
                    Good Luck,

                            Need more coffee.

                            Misread title as "Bobbin Positron"
"Det var helt Texas" is written Nowegian meaning "that's totally Texas." When spoken, it means "that's crazy."
