Greetings all. I'm a builder who just decided to get into making pickups. My winder is finished and is running well, but I am having a serious problem getting the insulation stripped off the 43g wire to where I can get a read on it. I've tried sanding with various grits of paper but the wire breaks before I can get a read on it. Is there a simple trick to this that I'm just missing? Thanks in advance.

Use solder iron and melt a dap of solder on the tip, then touch the wire where you want to strip the coating and move up and down just a little with the wire in the little dap of solder, the coating will melt away. I just learn this trick by accident. No scrapping at all.

The soldering iron tip must be at 700 to 750 F or so for this to work. The wire datasheet will give the actual temperature required.
