  • Gibson/Epiphone History?

I'm just finishing up a restoration of a 1965 Gibson Skylark GA-5 (12AU7, 2 x EL84), and I happened to notice that the same amp was sold as an Epiphone Pacemaker with only minor cosmetic differences.

So why did so many Gibson amps also exist as Epiphone amps--or was it the other way around? In the absence of information, I assume it had to do with marketing.

Very interesting. One thing that's not clear here--or from a little internet research--is who was designing and/or building Epiphone's guitar amps in the 1950s after Nat Daniels started Danelectro. Was Danelectro building Epiphone amps, or was Epiphone building them in-house before they were acquired by Gibson?

I've worked on a number of interesting 1950s guitar amps, including a few Gibsons, but I don't think I've ever seen an Epiphone from this period.
