    Humbucker bobbin screws

Anyone have a good source for the screws that hold humbucker bobbins to the plate?
    Thank you.

If you're in the US, then addiction-fx has the best prices, followed by philadelphialuthiertools.

I buy the brass ones at local hardware stores. It is a really common type.

    I think they're #2 x 3/8" sheet metal screws - I've been getting the brass ones here:

    http://www.mojotone.com/Pickups_x/Pi...ounting-Screws

And it looks like they're a bit cheaper here:

    https://www.philadelphialuthiertools...screws-qty-12/

And may be the cheapest from here, but I can't guarantee these will be the perfect fit - gonna have to order some myself to see.

The Bolt Depot is the better deal in quantity if they work. I may order some as well.
I have bought from Addiction FX, but they seem to be out.
Also the screws from them do not tighten in the bobbin, they spin when you bottom out. Like the diameter is a tad too small.

Are they sheet metal screws or wood screws? Do they have to be brass. You can get stainless #2 x 3/8" for a penny each at https://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/

I'd imagine either sheet metal OR wood screws will work, as long as they have a sharp point on them, and are the right size.

From what I've gathered, the reason to use brass over stainless is because brass is less magnetic than steel, and (unlike the steel keeper bar, which transfers magnetic pull from the bar magnet to the pole screws) these screws have no real purpose other than securing the bobbins to the baseplate. Brass reduces less highs than Steel, and in a situation where steel isn't necessary, brass has become the standard. Really, a dense, totally inert, non-metal screw would be ideal IMO.

That being said, a few of the original P.A.F.'s supposedly had stainless screws in them. I believe all of the modern Epiphone pickups do as well.

It's the "local hardware stores" that have become uncommon. At least around my part of the world.

#2 X 1/2" works best , the #2 x 3/8" wont grab enough bobbin & easily strip the hole . Even Seymour Duncan uses 1/2" screws

Not that a professional winder would even think of doing this but would a flat toothpick help secure a 2 3/8" screw? It sounds like 2 1/2" would be a better fit or does it depend on the bobbin?
