  • Problems in my second self build pickup

    hey guyz!!

OK. here's is second pickup. It is same p-90 style pickup.
I'll mention the apparent glitches, but i dunno if they matter or not.

    firstly,
my winding wasn't too good (9300 turns of 41 gauge wire). There was a break once, I solded the wire and spayed lacker. It was a bit loose towards the end.

    secondly,
    I used 2 magnets are .6 cm x 6 cm x .3 cm. I don't know what type it is. May be ceramic(by appearance).

    thirdly,
    I didn't used a metal base plate.

I directly this to the connected this thing to the input jack.

I am getting some sort of an output... but definitely not a musical one.... its like saws on metal .... a weird buzzing to be more accurate.....

I also connected this pickup to my PC, to check the input level. When i tap my PC casing. I get a sound. It is amplifying it and very clearly. Just like a drum

its a pretty mean mess-up.... i feel pretty royally fudged! what should i do !!

I also posted this message in my other thread pickup building help, but that one is too many posts and this thing is little different.

1st, have you checked to DCR of the pickup to make sure there are no shorts? If that checks out, then doble check to see that you have your magnets facing the right direction. Having opposite poles of the magnet facing each other will cause a phase problem and give you weak output that isn't musical.

Start again. Find out what your magnets are and make sure you know where the poles are. Use a multimeter to determine DCR. It sounds like you're trying to be inventive without first having conquered the basics.
