I wanted to use some tee nuts (e.g. http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...ct.do?pid=1746) for front mounting speakers on a speaker cabinet. Should the barrel of the tee nut be as long as the thickness of the wood? Or doesn't it really matter? There was an illustration in Kevin 'O Connor's "London Power DIY Speaker Cabinets for Musical Instrument Applications" where the barrel was as long as the thickness of the wood. But I haven't actually seen any tee nuts whose barrel is a long as the thickness of my wood (3/4"). |

No, they need not be as long as the wood thickness. They have to be long enough to provide ample thread for the bolt to grip. Think of the cage nuts on many amp chassis. That nut doesn't care how long the screw is coming through the cab roof or how think that wood roof might be. |
