| Hot Rod Deville 212 -- Blown Fuse
Hey everyone. I just got back from a three week vacation and turned on my amp. As soon as the red light came on the amp popped and turned off. Nothing would power up -- no lights, no sounds, no anything. A fuse was definitely blown (I took it out) and I'm wondering whether I should just replace it myself (3A 250V) or bring my amp to a shop. Is it possible that the fuse just blew on its own and there's no deeper problem (bad tubes or anything like that)? If there is a bigger problem, could replacing my current fuse and blowing the new one make the problem even worse? The amp is between two and three years old. Thanks for any input! |

Fuses don't blow on their own. Something made it blow. I would check the output tubes first.

But by all means try another fuse. Most common reason for fuses to blow is a failed power tube.

Hi there, I've owned and gigged a Deville for about 12 years now. I replace my power tubes about every six months, which has cured the problem of turning up at a gig, turning on and popping a fuse because a tube is shorted. Take out the power tubes replace the fuse (if your supply voltage is 230 then the fuse is 1.6 amp, 3 amp for 110v) if the amp will come of standby without blowing the fuse then you have a bad tube. |
