Another dumb strat neck question

Well I wanted to see if any one here has taken a strat neck and flattened out the back a bit from a C back contour to more like a D back contour?

If so, how did you do it? I've got a cheap made neck that is C back shaped and I want more of a slight bit thinner feel kinda like a old Charvel D contour.

I tried this one time with a belt sander on a old kramer neck and it worked OK but was a bit of a pain. Not sure if there is an easier way.

The usual way to carve a neck varies depending on the builders preference, but in general tools used are belt sanders, spoke shaves, files and rasps, etc.

There is no easier way.

I use a large soft drum sander (about 5" radius drum), and then hand-held, inflatable spindle sanders that are spun by a drill press for finer detail. I have used all of David's suggestions as well. They all work.

Mighty Might strat neck

Thanks for that info fellas, I tried the belt sander again and it got me where I wanted the neck to be but sure took a while. Lotsa fun getting that shape right. The neck is now being tung oiled to get that fast satin feel on the back. Its a squire neck from China so I hope the end result is good. I feel this was a good test platform to see how well I can shape the back of a neck after all these years. LOL....

On a side note I decided to buy one of those Mighty Might strat necks off ebay for $95.00 and got it in today, its a hair bit thinner than a standard strat neck at the heel (side to side) so this will be a bit of fun to see how it works. Its got the jumbo 6100 frets and a radius of 9.5 so hopefully it will be a good playing neck, still have to probably do a fret level as most necks need to have that done from the git go...

Any one used the Mighty Might necks? Good bad????
