What equipment do you need?

Hi,

I always wanted to build my own tube amp and I decided to give it a try.
I think I'll start with a kit to learn the basics. I was wondering what equipment do you need to build and test a guitar amp?
I was thinking about a good multimeter, a scope, a signal generator, a soldering station. Did I forgot something?
BTW, is there something special to look at (minimum specifications or anything) when buying a scope, considering you'll use it for building amps?
Anyway, I'm hoping to take my first steps soon to the fascinating and interesting world of DIY tube amps

Thanks in advance,

KN

On the cheap...
soldering iron with two power settings - 15W and 30W.
thin gauge 60/40 lead-tin rosin core solder.
tin of rosin soldering flux.
side-cutter pliers.
Chinese digital multimeter - about $15.
a bunch of alligator clip jumper leads.
a solder sucker - vacuum syringe for removing solder.
damp sponge for cleaning soldering iron.
bright work light.
wire strippers with the gauge marked on the side.

I don't have a scope or signal generator, and so far haven't needed one.

If you're going to build your cabs from scratch, you'll also need (again on the cheap)

A good jigsaw and/or circular saw/table saw
Decent power drill and bits
hand Router (makes a good job of edges) with 3/4" or 13mm half round bit
hand plane
orbital sander
2" diam hole saw and assorted other minor woork working tools

If you're going to build your chassis from scratch you'll probably need (more cheapness)

Sheetmetal cutter(s)
Chassis hole punches in assorted sizes, or drill press with metal drills
metal files
metal drills
pop-rivet gun
pliers
spanners etc
