Using larger caps in a Vox Buckingham

I am repairing a Vox Buckingham and all of the caps are original. I've replaced all of the electrolytics in the power amp section except for the two main large can filter caps coming off of the full wave bridge rectifier. Which brings me to my question:

Can I use a larger capacitor instead of the original 2500uf/35v caps? I have 4700uf/50v (with the same fit and form) in stock and would like to use these but my concern is surge current at power on and bleeding these larger caps at power off.

Has anyone used larger caps in this type of situation and if so what were the short and long term results?

Thanks,
CJ

I've done that on a number of those power amps with no apparent problems. Buckinghams and Viscounts share the same power chassis, and I can remember doing that value swap on a Viscount at least 6-7 years ago, that is still in service with no signs of any power supply problems.

Now you'll need to start changing all of the pre-amp electrolytics!
