resistor in place of choke

I've got a 500 R/25w resistor in place where the choke would normally go in the B+line. My B+ voltage is only 357v before the resistor. Can I dispense with this resistor to utilize more voltage to the following stages (the resistor drops 62v) or is it needed to serve another purpose other than dropping voltage? Like a CRC filter perhaps? I do have a 470R @ pin 4 of each 6v6 and 1k @ pin 9 of each EL82 (mixed tube power stage).

Correction... there is only an 8v drop across the 500ohm R.
I had my first B+ (to the OT center tap) connected to the wrong end of the first set of series caps. Silly me !
Voltages came up about 10v all around.
Still concerned about the low voltage tho. Perhaps the 2 extra (el84) tubes are too much load on the PT.

I have 288v at pin 4 of the 6v6s and same with the El82s.
Preamp tubes have between 170v and 240v.

The amp might sound cool like this ???

I am looking for early overdrive.... even a bit ratty sounding would be cool.

My other amp (a silvertone) has very low voltages on the preamp tubes and it sounds kind of gritty as it breaks up. I like it.

Would this be mostly due to low voltage?
