Interesting commentary and perspective on today’s manufacturing.

I thought some of you may be interested to see this even though its a bit dated now.
I think he is being a bit harsh picking on one manufacturer who provides a lot of young muso's with usable, affordable equipment.
I'm sure there a plenty more manufacturers who wouldn't let westerners near their factorys, whose practices leave a lot to be desired and not just in China !
Anyway I thought James Brown was the king of soul and I'm sure he was never in China!
Recently AudioTechnology's Chris Holder visited Behringer's Chinese factory in Zhong-Shan.

Yeah, saw those a couple years ago. Pretty impressive. Pretty intimidating, too. Looks a bit like those old industry demos of major film studios where there'd be building after building.
I've been working closely with Behringer for many years now, and their factory, which is referred to as Behringer City, is an exercise in self-sufficient manufacturing. It is THE reason that Behringer can sell their products so cheaply. Nothing is subcontracted. Speaker production, plastic molding, metal working, PC boards..... all done at Behringer city. Believe it or not, their QC is spot on (a failure rate of less than 1%), and it IS an ISO9002-standard factory, which is clean as a whistle and uncluttered as a castle.
