Cool silvertone 1484 tube problem

This is in regards to the tubes in my silvertone 1484. i recently had a Groove Tube (USA) in the main preamp portion of my amp and the tremelo was working. I took a telefunkin out of the one of the other three 12ax7 slots and swapped with the Groove Tube. The amps tone opened up and I was getting sounds I didn't know the amp could achieve. Only one problem, when I put the Tele in the main preamp I lost the tremelo. I swapped back and got the tremelo back but lost the tone. Does anyone have an idea of why this happened?

Welcome to the forum.
Seems like one of the tubes is bad (I'd bet on the GT). Have you tried other (known good) tubes? Do.

As a side note about the Silvertone amps, every Silvertone I've ever had come in the shop needed filter caps if they were original and they all had severely drifted resistor values.

Hi Jerry,

I'm gonna be working on a 1484 Silvertone soon. What resistor positions did you often find problems with? Thanks.

All of them. You have to check them all to see which have drifted drastically. Usually the plate resistors, cathode resistors, and power supply.

+1

Here's one that had so many bad components it required a complete rebuild (ALL caps, and nearly all resistors). Couldn't find a replacement multi-cap so I added another hole for a dual next to where the tremolo tube was.
(owner wanted it mod'd since it would have no value as an original)
