Well, you may need a little more than a 6V battery...
Why don't you share your experience a little, and what kind of amps catch your ear. You will probably be limited to an op-amp/ solid state device with headphones unless you can increase the voltage a little. In high school, I built an preamp out of a dual op-amp (two-stage: gain + EQ) and fed the output to a Pioneer car stereo amplifier running off of a 12V motorcycle battery. 60Watts lasted about 1/2 hour between charges. I quickly learned that plugging into my TS-9 was a better sounding preamp which drove the car amp nicely too. There are so many ways to make noise.

well here is where i started, i opened an old tape and took out the cassette head.instead of the cassette head i made a line in into the tape, pluged my guitar and it sounded great.
the tape was 6 watt and ran of 6 volt battery but i accidentely ruined him.
what i basically want is to make something similar, because in want it to be mobile.
thank you very much for responding! sorry if i wasn't accurate at first.
