HRDeluxe footswitch...GCX?

Hi guys,

After I deeply modded and upgraded my Hot Rod Deluxe I really like it and would like to integrate it in my rig. I was thinking to get a Voodoo Lab GCX (I already have GC for the Eventide delay) to switch pedal loops and, as commonly possible, to switch amp channels.

But...! Before buying I would like to figure out if it works! The HRDx foot switch seems a different mechanism than usual. It uses 2 button switches, one for the Clean-Drive switch and one that switches the Drive to More Drive. It is connected through a single mono cable though....I don't know how does it work exactly, I've researched a bit on the web but i didn't find anything.

Before contacting support teams which might take some time to be answered, can anyone here make some light?

Thx.

Alf.

I don't know if any of the controllers can be made to accommodate the Fender switching system - ASK THEM.

I suspect we could do it by using a decoder box between the controller and the amp FS jack.

Unlike the usual arrangement where a simple switch is connected by a wire to the works in the chassis, the Fender has a single conductor system that puts an AC voltage on the FS jack, then by means of diodes and zeners on the FS, it rectifies and sets levels that circuitry in the amp can decode.

It shouldn't be technically daunting for them. I don;t know their product, but most controllers have isolated switch closures you can assign to the controller features. Those switches then just get wired up to the footswitch input of your amp.

What they would need to make is a small box with the same very basic circuit of the Fender FS, with the switches replaced by connections to the controlling unit. Then the output of this box would connectt to the Fender FS jack as always. The Fender would have no idea the switch circuits were controlled by something other than a stomp switch.

I doubt they would do it.....maybe I should...
Thx again.

I might post a thread in the mods section, to see how to make the "decoding" box.

Modding HRD switch to accept GCX switching.

Hello guys,

I'm not an expert at all. But I would like to add 2 jack ins to be able to switch the Hot rod Deluxe pedal switch directly from a ground control system. The GCX outputs normal jack switches, I should need 2 of them to operate instead of the foot buttons soldered to the circuit board of the footswitch. One of the main problems that I suspect is that leaving the button switches in place might be a problem, because some connections, if present, would be active despite what coming from the new input jacks. Any good idea or something that I (hopefully) missed?

Thx!

Well, it's not possible to do it without removing the button switches. Just for anyone who wants to know.
