mark hammer's chaos help!

Hi,

Im new to this forum. I have just finished my 2nd build of mark hammer's chaos. I thought Ill build a new one since the first one I made was messy and had a lot of hiss. The problem Im having now is it just sounds like bypassed and I didn't install a bypass switch! I think it works because i don't get any sound when its not connected to the adapter. The vol, tone and gain knobs work but there is no distortion! just a change in the sound. Anyone who might know what could be the problem? I tried changing the IC (TL072p, I used Paul Marossy's layout) but its still the same.

Sounds like there are a lot of possible troubleshooting steps to check off.

#1 - You built this from Paul Marossy's layout. You etched the board yourself? Are you confident that all traces are as they should be with no bridges and no breaks?

#2 - Any possibility of cold solder-joints?

#3 - Are you sure the power is wired up correctly?

#4 - Are you sure the jacks are wired correctly?

Maybe the best place to start is with the debugging FAQ here: Debugging - DIY_Wiki and here: DEBUGGING - What to do when it doesn't work

Get back to me with a status report, and we'll continue.
