Gemini / APLT

Aaaah...... I'm sorry guys...but yes, I've created another one.

It's because I'm a total noob who doesn't know anything, especially about electronics of any kind.

I've got an optical sensor, thanks very much to RedHouse. It's got four differently colored wires sticking out of it, so I'm assuming that it is going to need a power source separate from the counter. What kind of thing am I looking at there?

Also, the Cub3 which I wanted and had directions on how to hook up slipped through my fingers on Evilbay. So I'm keeping my eye out there again, and it looks like I can get a good deal on several different models of RedLion coutners (for some reason there are no longer any Cub3s on there at all!!). For about the same price I would have got the Cub3, I can get a fancy-looking Gemini or and APLT ( which I cannot even find listed on RedLion's product page, so I'm confused there). But the back of those guys look totally different from what I saw of the Cub3. I want to make sure that my optical sensor will work with these, and that I'll be able to hook it all up properly.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. And sorry for being so clueless.

The Gemini series should work, as long as your sensor will output at least 3.75 vdc to trigger the count. Do you have any info on the sensor? The Gemini is basically just a counter that needs 115VAC power and a DC input (from the sensor) to trigger the counter. As for the back inputs, it depends on which Gemini series you are looking at.

APLT info is here: Search :: RED LION CONTROLS ::

I personally use an LNXC counter from Red Lion as it has a set of form c contacts and I run my winder motor through the contacts. I punch in my required count and when it hits that count, the contacts open and motor stops. I still pay attention to the count, but it does make it idiot proof

I beleive the Gemini 1 & 2 also have the contacts. Hope this helps...

Thanks for your help, Chevalij, but it happens that today I looked around on Ebay and someone listed a few Cub3s with a handy buy-it-now price....needless to say I snatched one up, because it should be easier to use and costs a few bucks less.
