| Any love for Weber Capacitors here??
Hi guys n gals I'm new here and think you have a great forum. Pretty much a noob from NZ long time musician, short time "mod man" I'm looking forward to getting lots of questions answered here and maybe helping out myself where I can. . . err if I can. Anyhow I decided that I would try different caps in my TSL60 just to experiment and see what the "hubbub" is all about. However finding all the caps I want Orange Drops, Mallory 150s and silver mica's all under one roof and without paying exorbitant shipping charges is near impossible. I was just about to call it a day when I stumbled across the Weber site. https://taweber.powweb.com/store/capord.htm It looks like they make their own caps based on the Orange Drop's, Mallory's, silver mica's and there price point is good too as will be there shipping charges I believe so that is good. I see Ted Weber has had a great reputation here for there speakers and such (and everywhere else too) but I have not found any comments about their components. Has anybody here used Weber components (caps or otherwise) or know whether they are as good as the real thing please? Any help would gratefully appreciated thanks. |

Their caps are very good, both electrolytics and film. I also like their resistors, especially for repairs of older amps because the Weber resistors have longer, vintage style leads. I've been buying stuff from Weber and co for at least 10 years now and the only problem I've ever had is with the pots.....they just aren't very good IMHO...but good pots these days are hard to find anyway. I have had issues in the past with other components such as switches, pots and jacks. they have since upgraded a lot of these items to higher quality. as far as caps and resistor i find them to be equal in quality to any other and usually at a fraction of the cost. I highly recomend Webers for just about anything they sell. Ray |

The pix of the axial hi voltage lytics make me nervous. I got a load of fakes a while back that looked *just* like those. The double crimped rubber end is fishy. Normally just the pos end is vented/crimped and the other end is bare casing. The fakes I got had the wrong value/voltage radials hand soldered into them. I suspect they were used caps as well...the leads were exended from pcb trimmed parts. Anyone care to take one of those apart and see whats in there?
