Greetings to you all.

I'm Boris, a part-time bassist who's spent the last three years around the instrument trying to see if I'm even fit to play, and I'm currently in a progressive/avantgarde rock project that's given me great feedback both on playing technique, band relations and everything that makes music work.

While learning how to play one of the things I became most interested in is the properties, sounds and, ultimately, trying to create my own pickup set for my basses (yes, that was plural ). Along with my main residence at Talkbass, I recently noticed this place and from what I can tell, there's enough material to keep me reading for a long while, and I see some of the same people roam both places (cheers to you, David Schwab of SGD ).

Well then, enough of me for now. Thanks for organizing the forums like this and I'll see you round the Pickups subforum. Hopefully, with pickup designs and realizations of my own.

If it is any consolation (or the opposite, I suppose), I have been playing guitar for over 40 years, and if I have learned one thing in that time, it is this: I suck at it. I only got two licks, and they both sound the same. Zero talent. I play well enough to check out amps. You want an Am or an E9, I can play it, or even a suspension, but the same old bluesly junk come sout every time I grab the axe. Oh I enjoy playing, but I doubt anyone else wants to hear me.

SO keep on taking care of what makes music work. I'll cover what makes it not work, while I fix amps that don;t work.
