| 12ay7 instead of 12bh7 and 6cg7 in Magnatone 280
Would subbing 12ay7 (amp. factor 44) instead of 12bh7 (amp. factor 17) and 6cg7 (amp. factor 20) in Magnatone 280 will make the vibrato stronger? I know I have to rewire the heaters, but will there be any adverse effects?

The filaments pins are the same as 12AU...T7 range of valves. The only Magnetone diagram I could find is attached and uses half a 12AX7 for the vibrato oscillator. I have used a 12BH7 as an output valve in a Firefly type grounded grid push/pull with great results! | |

Thanks for reply, I found that 12ay7 does not work in this position.

Here are two quick and dirty clips of my 260 and 280 amps: 260: 280: the vibrato on 280 amp is only about half as strong: |
