stratocaster tone and volume control issue

hi there,
i recently purchased new american standard. the guitar's sound is great, though i think i have a small problem with the volume and tone control buttons:
i reach the maximum volume of the guitar with a very slight turn ( turning to 3 reaches the max, and then there is no meaning of continuing turning. ) - some kind of sensetivity problem with the controller ?
same issue with the 2 tone controllers.

i'll be happy if someone can help my figure this out

That might actually be deliberate. Although it might not be part of your style, many players use their little finger on the volume pot to produce volume swells as they pick. This is most easily done when the transition from full-off to full-on is produced over a short part of the control's rotation.

Similarly, some players use their little finger on tone controls to produce "pinky wah". There, a rapid transition from full mute to full treble produces a sound similar to a wah pedal.

Since both of these are difficult to obtain with most "normal" potentiometers, it is very possible that, as I say, it is deliberately part of the design of what is generally considered to be a higher-end Strat.

Are you experiencing this while playing with heavy distortion or does it happen with the amp "clean" also???

I might be way off on this, but it might be a pot with the wrong taper - a linear or reverse log-tapered pot instead of a standard log pot. Can you take a look at the pot casing and read off exactly what it says?
