In case you haven't seen this already.... "When Mods Go Bad" (*warning for some potty mouth language*) Best comment: "The cloth covered cable must make this amp sound amazing! I did the same thing to a blender I own. Purest, most organic taste ever in my Jackfruit smoothies. Definitely recommended in Jackerville!" |

Man! That one takes the cake! I've never seen someone put in so much work for so little apparent benefit. Tom |

I've seen that amp! Unless there could possibly be more than one... Guy brought it in to the shop up here near Seattle (I see its infamy has traveled the entire west coast to San Diego). I kinda felt sorry for the owner - apparently he paid a pretty sizable chunk of change to have that mod done, and his experience at the shop went something like... Tech-1: "Hey guys - come check this out" Followed by three of us laughing incredulously and uttering many exclamatory phrases like "WHAT THE F@@K!?" and "HOLY S**T!!". Further followed by the taking of many pictures. The scope of the "mod" was so overwhelming we really couldn't maintain a proper sense of decorum for a while. When we calmed down a bit & started explaining to the customer what (in our opinion) it would take to properly repair the amp (and the many hundreds of $$ it would cost) he declined to have it done. Truly a masterpiece... |

I've done a lot of work de-modding amps. Owners sometimes get talked into a hot rod job when they bring in their tired sounding classic amp. What they really needed was a straight forward repair to get the amp working as designed. It's a bad idea to mod an amp that's not working correctly in the first place. That is unless both parties really know what they want to achieve and what they are doing. I really wonder what the thinking was when the work was done on the amp in the video. The mod is so extream. And what's the point of inserting the ticket sales advertising links in this Forum?
