My Father

My dad passed away this morning.

When I was growing-up he was mostly at work; he was supporting part of the new National Aeronautics and Space Administration; we were newly arrived in Houston, TX in early 1963........

For the next 10 years I saw my dad off and on when he was home from his work....until I was going away to college in 1972.

I was at home alone the day men first walked on the moon...and I watched it on TV on the new Sylvania he had installed in the wall....

I remember the long hours he put in during the later missions, including 13.

I remember, even while away at college, what my father did to support the mission.

Now, he is gone. And next week I get to permanently identify what renains of him.

Nobody else will know what he did, but you who read this will know.

Please think of him today...and those of you who believe, please pray for him.

Sorry for your loss. You will always be proud of what he achieved with NASA. I was very close to my father too, it's very hard to say goodbye. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Condolences. Prayers for you and your family sent. While it's never fun to loose a parent you can take some solice in the fact that he got to do and see things few of us ever will. Be proud, I'm sure you are. I lost my dad in 1991. It doesn't feel that long ago. No matter how old you or your parents get, it always hurts when they die. They're still your parents. RIP.

Hi TD,
Condolences to you and your family, I wish our prayers will help you to go on....
Believe me, I DO know how it feels, I've lost my father 22 years ago, and it still hurts, but the memory of the man he was, and what he has taught me helped me to carry on.....

I can't lie to you saying that, one day, the pain for losing him will go away....it won't, but I am sure you have lots of good things to remember about him, and this will help you to ease the pain somehow.

All the best

Bob

Very sorry to hear that news. My parents both lived to see 80, and are now long gone, but I still encounter things I wish I could tell my dad. And I still have things I would have asked from him. I will always recall where I was when they first walked on the moon. What an achievement - for the astronuats and for all the peole behind them, like your dad.

I wasn't lucky enough to have a father like yours, I last saw mine when I was 13, when he left me at the NM boy's ranch. I have had many father figures I looked up too, including my uncle Tom, who also worked down there at NASA in the 60's.
There is a fellow, long retired, who I made a place in my shop for his lathe, and machine tools, and he works as much as he wants to. A couple of years ago, he had a close one, and I can't tell you how tough it was, until he recovered.
I'm sure sorry you lost your dad, but it sounds like you really had a great relationship while he was here.

I only saw this today, I'm terribly sorry. Hang in there.
