Peavey XXL cutting in/out

I have a Peavey XXL head that I took out of a combo unit and enclosed into its own cabinet.

I have been gigging with it for about 8 years. lots of shows and lots of hours.

This amp has been perfect until the past month. It started to cut out and back in very quickly, volumes fluctuate, sounds like lots of bad connections, static, terrible noise, happening on all three channels.

I took the chassis out and cleaned every pot and connection (except the lower channel that is stacked as you view it from the front, those pots were not reachable without pulling circuit boards out).

Next gig it worked good for the first 6 songs and then started crapping out again, same problems from before.

Hoping for suggestions on what the problem may be.

Plug a spare cord from FX send to FX return and see if it helps.

Turned out to be a defective instrument cable in the signal path.
