The only thing better than a conservative politician being outed for being a hypocritical sleaze-ball is a bible-thumping, holier than thou, family-values preacher getting caught in the back seat of a car with a hooker.
We wouldn't be laughing at these folks and holding them up to so much ridicule if they didn't make their careers telling other people how to live. If they knew anything, they would remember to "judge not, lest ye be judged".
The republican party seems the be the "hookers and blow" party the last 10 years or so.
I did a search, and could not find any information of Mr Corning preaching to the rest of us, about the evils of taking hookers to graveyards for sex.
I do remember John Edwards speaking to the sanctity of marriage, and his great love of his wife.
It also seems the Rev. Jackson had a moral problem a few years back, paying off a woman he had a child with, with the money his "foundation" extorts from businesses.
I believe in the glass house rule, and if you're in the public light, someone will find your dirty laundry. I only wish all laundry aired at a height for all to see.
I think we can all agree that whatever one's political leanings, be they free-market, tree-hugging, bible-thumping, Koran-thumping, libertarian, eco-fascist, or whatever, if anyone wishes to get all preachy, they better damn well be up to practicing what they preach because at this time and place, if they don't, they will get found out, and it will be ugly when they do. People on every side/facet of the political spectrum are quickly losing trust in politics and the political process, and quite frankly NO NATION can prosper under those conditions, and no planet can be sustainable if nations start collapsing under their ethical weight left and right.
So kids, if you can not practice what you preach with any consistency, stay the hell away from political or public leadership, PLEASE.
You mean like Al Gore preaching doom & gloom from anthropogenic global warming, yet he lives a lifestyle that results in 100 times the CO2 emmissions of the average person. That kind of not practicing what you preach?
I was fortunate to have my "Granny",(mothers grandmother), around until I was in my early 20's. I lived with my grandparents for a while, and she would come visit for a month or so. One day a fellow came around asking her to vote for someone,"he's really an honest man". Granny said "O lordy, if he's an honest man, politics is the last place he should be". Unfortunately, I think sometimes that she's right.

Mark, sorry for the partisan like comment, I really don't have a dog in this fight, as I don't belong to any political party. Just trying to balance things out, and to illustrate that hypocrites live on both sides of the aisle.
When you stop and analyze the situation what we really have is one big political party with differing degrees of depravity. We have the party of tax, spend and regulate; and the party of tax, spend and regulate light. Both sides are plenty willing to engage their political powers to enforce their own personal agenda or that of their special interests. And that seems to be true in all western countries.
The political spectrum has drifted amazingly to the left. What today is considered far right radicalism would have been considered liberal just a few short decades ago. In his day Hubert Humphery was called a flaming liberal, yet if you listen to the speeches he gave when campaigning for president, if he was a politician today he'd be to the right of Newt Gingrich. John F Kennedy would be a conservative Republican if he were a modern politician.
And we never learn from the past. As bad as socialism is, we keep drifting that way. As bad as repression is we keep willingly moving right along towards it more and more all the time. We've all but abandoned the ideal of individual liberty and freedom, and embraced regulation and control. We've traded individual responsibility for reliance on government handouts. And the guys above just want to argue about partisan politics, all the while having their freedoms taken away from them. Like a frog in a pot of water being slowly heated up, by the time they realize what's happening we'll all be frog soup.
Frog Soup would make a great name for a website. ;)
I think Bill's Granny was right - as long as we keep electing politicians we're to blame for our problems.
I think hasserl is right, as well. They're not giving us much choice. Does it really matter if you're a Red Sox or a Yankees fan? In the end, they're all ball players. Even the Capitalist/Communist division is slieght of hand. Right now, you pay taxes, interest, and premiums. Socialism would just make that one, easy to pay, bill taken straight from your salary. Perhaps a different set of people would be getting rich, but we'd all still be struggling. Yet somehow, those rich people get us to root for them. To defend them. To cheer them on as they fill their pockets with our money.
Damn, I sound like an old grouch, don't I? ;)
