Been using it non-stop for going on 20 years. It's where all the cool kids hang out

If you want to learn anything computer or program related, you can usually find the person that wrote or developed it on irc.

And yes, it's the group of people you need to know to gain access to private torrent trackers like waffles, what.cd, goam, bitme, etc.

I just created a channel on rizon's irc server. If any of you care to join me, it's:

/server irc.rizon.net
/join #pickups

Just say my name and i'll see you.

It'd kill to try out what.cd but i've never been able to get an invite. It took me forever to get onto waffles. Now I have invites I dont know what to do with :/

Do I need a unix level command line and shell access to get there??

I had to fight my ISP for months to get shell access, they wanted my driver's license and fingerprints...

I dont know if I'll be close to the computer when you log in, but idle in the channel for a bit and I'll see you. Also, say my name and my irc client will blink.

No shell. Just download MIRC if on windows or xchat if on linux (maybe a mac guy can tell whet their big irc client is) and follow the setup. Dont worry about paying for it. After the time expires, it still works. You would only need root if you were going to host your irc client on a remote server and had to root into it to gain access. But even then, you should never open irc from a root account.

To anyone else that reads this, dont get scared off. IRC is easy. I'll write a How-To if anyone needs it.

Belwar and kyle, it was nice chatting with ya'll in IRC tonight. You should idle in there when not chatting. I'll be on and off for anyone else. Feel free anyone, to idle in there until people pop online.

I used to use Ircle, which is still available on the mac

i r c l e . c o m

Another popular Client seems to be Snak

Snak - IRC for Mac

Here's a list of Mac OS X clients.

IRC Clients for MacOS

I suppose one could also run a Linix client in X11 on the Mac.

Good old IRC.

Might as well join, then.

Edit: Well, I've joined, nickserved and auto-set the script. Now, if there are going to be people permanently connected, is anyone willing to keep chatlogs of the discussion? I would volunteer for the task myself, except I have two things working against me: no permanent link (due to roaming around during an average student's day) and the fact I'm in one of the European time zones - in other words, as far as the majority of the forum goes, my downtime doesn't coincide with yours.
