    Jam Bands-Past & Present

    New Category!
I listen to a lot of Sirius Music on my Dish TV Network.
I listen to different Genre's, I love good Jam Sessions.
I would like to Dedicate this Thread to Jam type Music.
It can be Jazzy, bluzzy, or Rock Songs gone wild and long.
    No Rap, or Hip-Hop Please.
I'll start it with one I heard today on Sirus Chan 29.
I think this is a good cut and typifies what I call Jam Sessions.

I remember around 2002 going into the Sail Inn out in Tempe, AZ. I had confused the club name w/ another venue that ended in "Inn." So anyhow I ran into the Psychedelic Breakfast... They later are known as just "The Breakfast" now but wow they were cool. So, I stayed and watched their first set and was just blown away. Later on I made way to see the other band I was going to see... Lymbyc Systym at the other Inn. Anyway just remembered that whole night and found this youtube of them jamming something. I think the camera man is on acid or something...! By the end of video you might have a flash back.

This is a long jam from Atomic Rooster - Black Snake... I have no idea how I found this on youtube, but man it was a late night. Beer in hand this one caught my attention!! LOL It's hilarious but jamming too! Watch the singer eating a sandwich between the verses, too funny.

King Crimson always had a place in my heart with their very dis-chordal arrangements. That fat bass and tripped out drums that led to the ethereal violin or keyboards. Or that elusive guitarist ripping up crazy lead phrases.

    King Crimson - live 1974 - Starless - YouTube

Which brings me to something very similar in the art of complexity while still remaining heart felt as much, Yes! Yes Close to the Edge really got me straight in the heart w/ the samples of mother nature then the crazy keyboards. All of this music reminds me of my Dad so much...

Just have to throw caution to the wind on this one... Jamming outbound is always about going out so far but not so far that your favorite tambourine man can't be there to share the embrace of rhythm. Zappa was really talented and surrounded himself with great musicians. If you never saw him on the Steve Allen show playing Bicycles then go watch that immediately!! Here is The Mothers of Invention in 1968. Give it a chance after a while you might get into it... Or you might have a nervous breakdown and want to go out to rid the world of tambourine players!

Well I hate to post something that was just posted but something makes me want to crawl back to the original track to remember how great it really was!! Can't you hear me knocking is one of the Rolling Stones greatest jams.

"Mick Taylor, in 1979, said: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking is one of my favorites. (The jam at the end) just happened by accident; that was never planned. Towards the end of the song I just felt like carrying on playing. Everybody was putting their instruments down, but the tape was still rolling and it sounded good, so everybody quickly picked up their instruments again and carried on playing. It just happened, and it was a one-take thing. A lot of people seem to really like that part.""

Accidents are what music is about and on the album version it tells us all that these guys really were playing live. I have had all my greatest extended jam sessions happen on accident! If you go in that room trying to pull this off you never will! If you think for one second that producing this will make it better... It won't. It is like how many of us were accidental births. Not planned but here we are in this world rocking on just by some chance of a great night our parents shared. This song is as close to sex captured through a microphone!!

Hocus Pocus by Focus. Not a long one but great in any country, in any language and the Keys definately put it in the jam category. I actually like the old radio version too. Many admirations to the other posts. Where's Humble Pie?

I would put this in Jam Band for the lack of lyrics. Heard this one again on my way to work today and just thankful to have a good radio station. Tight playing and just a tripped out track!

Edit: BTW the station out here plays nonstop music!! No commercials on the radio... What a concept!
    http://www.kcdx.com/index.php
They even have played Echoes by Pink Floyd a few times on this station, how many on the radio stations do that? It's like a satellite station on FM dial.
