| Well, I'm a hobbiest at this point so you are probably much better versed than I in the world of suppliers. And they very well may have originated from GJ for all I know, but this way I'll actually get them (GJ SUCKS!!!). Stephen Kersting sells them.

| Senior Member | Stephen used to get the same parts as GJ - I think from Alex, but I'm not positive. I haven't had any trouble at all with Pat since he took over for Alex.

It's a good thing for him that he's one of the only games in town, because if he had to compete in the marketplace like most industries? LOL! He'd be screwed.

He may very well have someone running right over him shortly. Why deal with him? Does'nt Allparts have 52/53mm?

I guess you guys have better luck than I. Maybe your orders are larger so he treats you better? I don't know. I've had nothing but crap service from that clown. Eh, no worries. I didn't intend for this to be an anti GJ thread. I'm just looking for parts elsewhere and I found them.

I order 150 bobbins, 50 baseplates, and 500 slugs on Friday last week and it came in today. I dunno. I was worried about Pat at first due to stuff I'd heard, but from day 1 he's been decent to me and ships orders promptly.

I spoke to him on the phone, placed my order, he was very polite and then didn't send my parts or respond to my emails. It's simply a bad business practice. Anyone in the business world that has any experience with best practices will tell you this guy is committing suicide by doing this. If I were to become the next Seymour Duncan I would go to great lengths to purchase from his competitor. All he's done is waste my time. Guitar Jones can suck it!!! (Oops...so much for not being an anti-GJ thread.)

When I started and came up against "minimum quantities" I reasoned that the more popular "boutique" guys at the time (Tom Holmes, etc.) were getting $250 per pickup so spending $300-$400 on parts was still a good deal for all the pickups I could make for myself if nobody else wanted them (I have 15 guitars - I think, maybe more). I still haven't gotten 'round to outfitting all of my own guitars with my own pickups - not enough time in the day. You can get small quantities from GuitarParts USA - and I think 52mm bobbins instead of 53mm. I ordered 5 each of some stuff just to see what they looked like. Ordered online and they got here fast. They have brass baseplates that look identicle to the GJ short legged nickel baseplates. http://www.guitarpartsusa.com/cat--G...pplies--MAIN22 Should work fine for the hobbyist. |

As for Pat at Guitar Jones I have found him to be absolutely fine to deal with so long as you first speak to him on the phone.

Pat is cool with me too. haven't had any problems. There were some issues back when he first took over GJ from alex...but i think he's gotten a handle on it now. Just a suggestion....StewMac is really good about delivery/shipping... they usually have your order out the door the next working day. If you're looking for parts in a timely manner, they're an alternative. And they're good about returns (posting credits) and providing email invoices and delivery/tracking info...i think they have a nice ordering system....i don't think they have the 53mm bobbins though. |
