Ampage Archives to the rescue!

Back in 2004 in a discussion about capos I had recommended one I had gotten in the late 70's, which turned out to be a Sabine. If you set it right it would not put your guitar out of tune, but the rubber inserts had deteriorated over time. I had mentioned that I'd gladly pay $20-30 for one if someone decided to put them back into production. Here is the thread:

Well, I just got an email from an Ed Rider in North Carolina who wants to market them but needed a sample to send to the manufacturers in China. He offered to buy it but I told him I'd send it to him free (if it actually goes into production he promised to send me a couple of them).

The funny thing is that although I am a horrendous pack rat, I had finally decided to throw away that old capo a few months ago because the rubber parts had deteriorated so much. Fortunately I am also lazy so I never did get around to actually throwing it out... LOL

P.S. I've been pretty happy with the G7 capo that sells for $40- if you just barely squeeze it, it doesn't seem to put your guitar out of tune. But it is really easy to set it for too much tension, which can make your guitar sharp.

By the way Steve, I've been meaning to send this to you for your schemo archives...some might find it helpful. It just shows the C#/R# designations on the circuit card for a Trace/Gibson Velocette/GA15. I'm quite sure about the caps that were the wrong value in my Gibson...I measured them at 220nF (the amp was OK through the 1x10" but incredibly bassy through a 4x12).

EDIT: Oh yea, slope resistor was 100K and the bass resistor was 470K (those values are missing on the hand-drawn schemo).

So how about the other caps and resistors- does anyone have a list of them?

Thanks

All the values are per the hand-drawn Velocette schematic (in your archives) except those noted...plus the two resistors that weren't labeled in that hand-drawn schematic (the slope and bass resistor). It's really helpful if you're modding/working on one. And if you are working on one, you can always look and see what value you have there.

FWIW, when you put a pot in place of that 470k 'bass' resistor in tone stack you quickly find that the 470k resistor is essentially like setting a bass control on '10'. Couple that with the .22uF PI input cap and it's just a bassy/blurry mess when cranked (but since the stock Vintage 10 speaker in the cab is such a horrid midrangey speaker...it doesn't sound overly bassy through the 1x10" cab).
