Wink Blown P12R First Post

Hi all,

I picked up a 1959 5E3 last week from a freind here in the UK.

Original apart from the front and sides has been professionally recovered.

Fully serviced, I got it home and plugged my Neil Young LP in.
This is a Tom Murphy aged 56 Custom Authentic. Fire Bird and chrome P90.

I had been playing through a Hot Rod Deluxe, with the help of a Tube Screamer, I thought I had a cool tone until I plugged into the 59.

WOW, I played my Stephen Stills White Falcon through it and clean it
was awesome, can it get and better... Yes.. the LP was crazy.

I played it mainly clean for a few day's, brakes up around 2.5-3 vol.

Just the tone I have been searching for !!!!

I just had to crank it up, at 7 Tone, 7 Vol, 3 Mic. the LP was nearly
jumping out my hand's.

Down by the River , Love to Burn, I have NEVER ever heard anything like it.

I was shaking after playing )

The same evening I wanted another fix, 10 minutes is all I got and the speaker said. NO WAY.

I'm gutted..

What is the best thing to do, recon or find another original P12R.
Reading up here I'm afraid the same will happed again,

I have fitted a 2005 Jenson C12Q for now. OK but just not the same..

Love to hear from any other 5E3 owners, especially you Neil Young fan's..

Thanks

Gibby

Look forward to A/B these speaker's in my Deluxe.

I'd be interested in how the alnico sounds in there myself ( without paying the $250 to find out ) Please let us know how you like it

Speaker

Yea will do......

I feel rather criminal fiiting a modern replacment speaker, missing the
whole point of buying a vintage amp in the first place.

My inquisitive nature....

Might just bang the Blue in my Hot Rod Deluxe if it's no good.

Reconing or replacement (keeping the original speaker & cone to preserve originality when selling on) are just a fact of life.

been using the Celestion Blues in a Victoria 20112 and a Mission Amps Tweey Deluxe for a couple of years. I think you won't look back.

Jenson C12Q :(

This Jenson C12Q is just not doing it for me....

Man do I miss that old P12R... I only hope the Alnico Blue is closer to the original.

My Reconed P12R should be back soon too...

When I first got the amp home I was crying with joy, it was sooo perfect.

I just love the warm clean tone and when required it was so Neil it was scary !

Fingers crossed, after a slow start it's really cool to hear from you guy's.

Many thanks
