New tubes for HR Deville 212

My Deville is needing retubing, and I'm not all that knowledgable about things, so need a bit of help.

The tubes that came with it are 2 GT6L6Bs and 3 GT-12AX7s. Doing a bit of internet research these are just Sovtek 5881WXTs and 12AX7WAs.

Basically, I thought these were a bit muddy and lacked clarity and high end, which is kind of what I go for. What tubes are compatible with these, any 6L6s and any 12AX7s? And what are the best options.

And on a final note, if I do just chicken out and get Sovteks, will I need to rebias?

Cheers

You should rebias no matter what tubes you get. The adjustment is simple, and ther is a test point right on the corner of the power tube socket board. Factory spec is 60mv there.

ANy 6L6 and any 12AX7 will work fine. You might prefer one brand over another for subtle tonal differences, but they all will work fine.

Try fresh power tubes first, that alone often livens up an amp, just as new strings liven up a guitar.
