    Scam, Scam, Scam.

Notice how the 70 year old tube boxes are crisp white?

It may be possible that some of this collection is especially well preserved. But, except for a couple of $1000+ 12AU7's, I don't recognize anything that's used in audio. Big boxes full'a - - - - - - nothin'.

I don't know what it shows for other locations, but the extra $36,000 for shipping puts that big lot out of reach for me.

Notice his feedback profile and his recently completed auctions, plus consider the fact that there is no inventory list. Tl;dr: He has been cherry picking the lot for years and selling the valuable tubes in pairs etc. Now he has run out of the good stuff, which sells easily, so now he is trying to sell the scrap for an exorbitant price.

Yeah I saw this posting a few weeks back and almost posted it up here on the MEF. The prices are absolutely insane! Also, the picture of the large box items are all blurry and the seller did not give a good list of tubes in the lot. Crazy!!

This reminds me of how excited I was many years ago, when I was a kid and an old TV guy gave me a Sylvania tube caddy full of tubes, along with several boxes of old TV tubes. I thought I had hit the jackpot!

When I inventoried them I found a couple of twin triodes that were useful, and 1 6BQ5. Everything else was TV-related, without any real use in audio unless you wanted to design a new audio amp around a vertical deflection amplifier that was never intended for audio. That batch of stuff might have been useful to another old TV guy who wanted to keep a vintage set going, but beyond that application the batch was almost worthless. The most valuable part of the kit was the old tube caddy.

Fast forward to 2009 and nobody's broadcasting in standard definition any more, which puts yet another barrier between the vintage tube TV sets and today's signals. Exclusively HD transmissions can only make the value of the old tube junkpile sink lower and lower; not only have the audio tubes been cherry-picked from the junkpile, but all that's left are the TV tubes that are pretty much unwanted.

No bids here... not even if I got $36k in free shipping.

The 'Tone Quality / Noise / Microphonics' and 'Return Policy' bits of the listing under 'store policies' are a fun read.

you're paying far closer attention than I am. I didn't even read that. obviously you are not as excited as I am about the chance to spend so much money to obtain such a rare and valuable NOS tube collection.

In fact hes selling them dirt cheap.Just his first offer is:
    "500,000 THOUSAND tubes"
    and asking price is :
    $195,950.95
    plus:
    $35,999.00 shipping
Ok, Ill turn on my old trusty calculator:

    500,000 THOUSAND = 500000000 or 500 Million

    $195,950.95 + $35,999.00 = 231949.95$

So unit cost (delivered) is: 0,00046U$ per unit.
Even the dirt covering any tube is worth more than that
