    Image attachment problems

Just trying to post a couple of 250kb .jpg images. Seems to upload, but only get grey box showing. In the post the preview shows 'Attached Images' but no image.

File open just fine on my desktop and I can't see anything wrong.

    Any suggestions?

Maybe this is the .jpg variation of the .pdf 'clear gif' issue?
Were these images posted previous to the big data loss?
Maybe try adding a dot or line to the images to change their file byte size and see if they work?

Did you leave us a link so we can try and see what we get here?

ANy chance the image files are ones that were posted here in the past?

I'm not having problems uploading images, but then I haven't tried since yesterday. The board was down with "database issues" today and recently came back up -- maybe there was a maintenance issue that's been fixed now?

Well, that didn't work but illustrates the problem. These are new images uploaded yesterday and I double-checked to make sure there's no duplicate file name. Will try editing the files as suggested and see if they upload. The problem seems to be when they're uploaded - I don't get the preview in the icon. Maybe re-save them as a .gif.

Yup I just posted an image file on another thread and it worked just fine. Strange indeed.

I just opened the images in Picasa and re-saved them under a different filename and those have uploaded and posted in a different thread just fine. I'll put it down to 'one of those things....'

I *think* that if such a filename and probably image size had been stored previously to the Great Tsunami, data itself is lost or heavily corrupted, but half brain dead server doggedly thinks "I already have that one, so donīt bother me with a duplicate" or something similar.
Just thinking aloud, of course, no proof either way.

Good point - I though I'd posted those images a quite few years ago but couldn't see them in my gallery. It's certainly looks like a problem with those two specific files and nothing else.

The forum seems to look at the suffix (filetype) and byte size. (example, .jpg 1527 bytes) If the file was previously posted and got sucked in during that black hole event, the forum will not accept it as is.
Changing the filename does not help. Altering the byte size or zipping the file works.
Zipping the file is the simplest solution.
To alter the byte size, for pdfs you can re-save from your adobe viewer, for jpgs you can just add a dot or something using paint or similar, and save the change.

I suspect, or a least hope, it's a tad more sophisticated than that. I expect it does a checksum of some kind as well and uses that to confirm a match.
