For the life of me I cannot think of a single manufacturer that is not on the exclusion list besides the GC/MF house brands like Musician's Gear or Mitchell. Can you?

P.S. Here is a tip for GC shoppers who use their credit card. For select items and brands at certain times they offer same as cash financing for up to 48 months (more commonly 24 or 36 months.) However, this financing is only for new equipment and at the sticker price.

Not to encourage anyone to do this deliberately but sometimes I decide to return one of the items from a particular, say, 36 month same-as-cash transaction. You can request the dollar amount for that item as a gift card which then be used on anything you want at any GC store or on-line. (You can usually get the best deals on used items which do come with a 45 day no-questions-asked*** return policy.)

*** It has been pointed out to me that they usually do ask why you are returning an item but it's not like you are getting grilled down at the police station...

Hey, the way Google works these days it wasn't easy coming up with that picture! I first tried the search phrase "getting grilled under lights at the police station" and Google with its one track mind was showing me images of police cars at night with their light bars. So I searched for "getting grilled at the police station" and got all sorts of pictures of grilled food. I eventually tried "getting interrogated at police station" which came up with several good hits but none of the classic scenes I originally had in mind but I decided that this one would do. BTW Getty Images had an identical photo but with different colored clothes that was kinda boring... Photoshop to the rescue!

I can't tell you how many times I've passed on those sales because everything I've wanted was on the no-go list.

The good news is that although Fender is normally excluded, they do come up with sales once in a while that include Fender guitars and amps on the 15% off sales. Or if you want a "prohibited" brand, wait for one of those sales where you get 20% back in GC Bucks. Nothing is excluded on the GC Bucks sales, and when you get 20% back it's almost as good as 20% off. I plan ahead to use the Bucks to buy something else. The only problem with that approach is that the Bucks have a short spending life, you need to line up your ducks ahead of time and be ready to order when the Bucks arrive.

"I happen to have an original 1955 Stratocaster! The neck and body have been replaced with top quality Warmoth parts, I upgraded the hardware and put in custom, hand wound pickups. It's fabulous. There's nothing like that vintage tone or owning an original." - Chuck H

If the GC ad says something like "call for discounts" you can sometimes get discounts on those brands by calling Customer Service and asking for them. Sometimes GC is just prohibited from advertising the discounts on some brands.

FWIW this weekend MF is have a 15% off sale (code: SAVE15). I bought a set of Fender locking tuners and string trees for my partscaster project using the code.

Are GC Bucks the same as the $20 or $30 coupons that come at the top of your monthly bill after you charge a lot of stuff you didn't really need? One problem with those coupons is that the value is lost if you return an item purchased with the coupon (they only look at amount actually paid on the receipt.)

On the other hand you do not pay sales tax on the value of the coupon in a purchase. I wanted to buy the Korg Sledgehammer Pro chromatic tuner for $19.99 (a great deal every day!) using a $20 coupon and thought I'd have to put the tax on a card for the on-line purchase but surprise, surprise - there was no tax!

P.S. I started this thread because the damned exclusion list keeps getting longer and longer... BTW one other tip about their same-as-cash financing offers: some of the time you can add one item (like EB strings) to a ticket to qualify for the financing. It's like GC changes their policy on that 2 or 3 times a year. The salesmen don't necessarily know if it will work until they actually ring it up at which time I decline the sale if it did not qualify for the financing. (I only put same-as-cash purchases on my GC card.)

The best deal I've gotten at GC has been buying their gift cards when they sell them for a 15% discount, and loading up on them... then waiting for a GC bucks sale and paying with the gift cards. Then you get the 20% rebate by email.

If you buy the gift cards at 15% off, and wait for a sale that gives you a 20% rebate, it's like getting a 32% discount. The up front cash outlay is the only problem with this approach. But if you're planning a major purchase and you can afford to wait, it's like paying 68% of list for something brand new.
