Hey there, I´m considering buying an old silverface vibrolux but I´m not particularly happy with the speakers (oxford 10L5). Does anybody has good experiences with (new) eminence speakers raging cajun or ramrod ? other suggestions ? by the way, what´s the weight of these old oxfords ? (i wanna know if the amp will be heavier after changing speakers - weight´s an issue...); thanks, ross

I've used Eminence Legend 105 10 inch speakers in a 2x10 and they sound very nice and aren't too expensive either. Certainly better than older Oxfarts. Greg |

yeah - that´s how they sound these oxfords... the legend is not too dark ? I narrowed it down to either legends or copperheads now. i´m using a strat and like a tight funky clean sound and overdrive sounds a la stevie ray...thanks

In my SF Vibrolux reverb I use a Weber C10Q (think it's a 10F150) and a CopperHead....nice and spanky.

Weber has some great speakers,if you email him and tell him what you are looking to achieve he will give you some top flight advice.

i put a 12" eminence red coat Tonka in my vibrolux , totally transformed the amp ! mine had the oxfords which i thought was poor , i`m not a big fan of the alnico jensen speakers yet they do some ceramics which sound great .

You know that the VR expects a 4-ohm load, right? The Tonker is 8 ohms, I think.

yes i know the ohmage is wrong but the tone was so good, if the vibrolux was an 8ohm load and the tonka a 4ohm then i wouldn`t even attempt it, but the concensus of opinion is that it will take the 8ohm speaker with no problem. thanks for pointing it out , i should have done that but forgot.

Supposedly the older Fender's were robust enough to handle a mismatch either way....and you're right, you can get some great tones doing this.
