    eico 666 tube tester

    he folks,
does anyone have experience with this tube tester? I am having trouble even finding the rectifier diode...if there even is one.
When I attempt the 'Merit' test with the appropriate buttons pressed to do so (I am assuming those are the ones that are underscored on the roll sheet) the needle just 'hums' like it has AC on it. I do read DC plate voltages on the tube to be tested.
I have cleaned all the switches & such.

I tried to trace the Line voltage test as it seemed the easiest to follow, but NOT

    Any help appreciated...glen

I just got one of these , the underlined number does nothing until you press the (?h/k leak button?) going off memory here, the very last number is the merit so you push in the numbered button then pull the merrit switch. here are some links i found for instructions and stuff. One is a newer diode/rectifier and caps ou can put on it. I cant zero in the needle on mine, like the line button doesnt work, needle works fine on a teat though. i do know that they used the cheapest parts possible on these and the charts are very inaccurate so be careful w/ your tubes

There must be a rectifier. From that era, it just might be selenium. Is there something with a few square metal plates, almost looks a little like a radiator pipe for a hot water heat sysytem except only a few plates.

There are 2 of them, i believe they name was selenium diode as Enzo said. heres a layout pic i have, looks like they are in the vicinity of the what looks like some sort of internal adjustment pot. diode is marked CR1 the other is CR2 but is not on the layout.

Wow...great info. Yeah, the closest thing I found was a black square thing that you have circled in your drawing...I didn't know what it was. There aren't many filters anywhere in this thing. from the schematic link provided by Patiam, I can see how rudimentry the power supply is for this. I guess they didn't need anything any more complicated.

This info will make fixing this thing easy..thanx, glen
