"Promiscuity" problems - and I love this crew

Hey Folks,

I've been a bit "promiscuous" hanging around another forum or two and just recently I wound up in a "urination' match with a forum's "guru" inadvertantly. The issues were several, a couple of which I've noted here - the possiblility of using a 3DG4 in a 5U4 circuit, whether the term "reproduction" was more appropriate than 'reissue" for modern copies of iconic tubes - and with the addition of whether most tubes in storage "aged" in an audible manner thus making vintage NOS tubes more valuable just because they were "old." But after some research, that I probably should have done originally, I found out that this person made much of his money from selling tubes and thus has a vested financial interest in keeping prices up (and he got upset when I inquired about this) - fer example he sells 5U4s for over $20 (which isn't an unfair price) but I mentioned that the 3DG4 was available from AES for $1!

Anyhow, I repeated attempted to ask this guy why he was "after my throat" and to apologize for any thing I may have said that he took personally - but he just continued to slur me and twist anything I posted.

Just a few minute ago I took a quick look at the "Designing for AB2' thread - I haven't been closelly following it - and noted some disagreement, some posting and counter posting of quotes from the literature, etc., etc., but NO name calling, no personal attacks and pointed but "gentlemanly" responses. And this is what I really expect from other forums but it seems to lacking at most 'cept this one.

Much thanks Steve for creating a "world" where we can "cuss and discuss" most anything - both electronic and other - with respect. If we are willing - for arqument's sake - call this "Ampage" then I've only been attacked once in the 8-9 years I've been posting and this was some irritable individual who for some reason took me for task about using the handle "graywater" (which was a bit of tongue in cheek self deprecation that few really got anyway) so I dropped it for my own name. Once in 9 years - that's pretty damned good!

Again, thanks Steve and I love you guys - I may dislike your tast in ice cream and music but you've still been a "family" of a sorts!

Rob

Don't look now, but the "Tell me if I got a good deal..." thread may be hitting that level....

Ampage rules! I don't care if it isn't even called Ampage now and doesn't have TBoy's funky old home-made forum software. Any time someone asks me a technical question about amps online, I tell them to go here.

you suck! OK, "junior" enough for you or you'll have to go to bed without your caviar and thyratrons again!

SC: "TBoy's funky old home-made forum software" was still one of the better designs that I've used - and I know Tboy's working his fingers to the bony improving this commercial software but I still miss the "what's happening at at glance" ease of use that the older one provided - I guess I like that with any of the BBSs I've used - easy to tell who's posted and responded without digging. Still, "way to go Steve."

I agree. I still think TBoy's own forum software was the best I've ever seen anywhere. But I can see why he changed to a commercial package too.
