Roland Space echo: Touchy Reverb

I'm a proud new owner of a Roland space echo 201.....
My Problem is that the Reverb does not kick in until a bout the 3 level marker. At levels 1 and 2 the Reverb Volume level has no effect....Then at level 3 there seems to be alot of reverb...To much reverb....so it is kinda ALl or nothing with the reverb.....There is also a little hiss...but thats not my main concern....Any ideas what is causing the Heavy reverb at level marker 3?

Disconnect the pot and check it with a meter.

just a quick note, the reverb on my re-301 is quite thick, pea-soupish. at three on the level knob it's already murky.

if indeed the pot is the problem, try hitting it with contact cleaner. failing that replace it or ... open it up and clean the wiper with a pencil eraser.
