What happened tboy?

I just noticed my preferences have defaulted - like my PM turned back on. I noticed this because I got a "visitor message." I never heard of this, has it been there all along? How is it different from the PMs?

But the real thing is the attachments. Before, if someone attached a little schematic or something, I could click on it and a full size image of it opened up in its own new window. See for example "Switching problem" thread.

Now when I click on it, I get a black screen with the image in the center. I have to back out of it to get back to the posts. How can I get the old new-window deal back so I can read the posts and still have the image handy at any time?

For the images, once you get the image on the black background if you click
on it again it comes up in a new window like it did before. So two clicks instead
of one. I don't much care for this new look either.

I haven't the faintest idea (and it worries me somewhat) but you can
turn it off in your profile.

Feel yourself lucky, I didn't get any requests.

It was only one, so I'm not all that lucky.

I usually keep all the extraneous stuff turned off. Otherwise I get a lot of communication that belongs in the forum.

I just noticed something when reading threads in "linear mode" as I do : often
if you click once on a fingernail the "partially expanded picture on black background"
opens over the first post in the thread even though you might be at the 10th
post. So it appears like nothing happens. Sometimes this happens only starting
from 4 or 5 posts down, sometimes from the second post onward.

If instead you just double click on the fingernail you get the original behaviour of
the picture in a new window.

I think I just figured this out. If you're somewhere in a thread and click (once)
on a picture it expands on the black background in the proper place and
everything's fine. However, if you then move to another message in the
thread by scrolling and then click on another picture, it will open up where
the last one did so you may not see it. Then no amount of clicking or
double clicking will get a thumbnail to open in a separate window.

In Netscape I use the "open link in new window" right button menu click
to get around this.
