Question Ampeg SVT Classic Sound Shut Down

I have a six year old SVT head and this week the old girl started not working on me. Here's how:

    1. Playing along and full sound clips off.
    2. There is a tiny bit of sound coming from the 8x10 cab.
    3. There is a slight popping/cracking noise.
    4. The LED light stays green.
    5. If I turn the volume all the way down and the gain all the way up, and then slowly turn up the volume, full sound returns.
    6. All systems go for another hour or so.
    7. Repeat steps one thru five.

Any help would be great, as there is no one here in this part of Montana who is real familiar with my amp, "Ms. Woods."

First thing to mind is the power amp IN jack. Plug a cord into the preamp out jack and the other end right back into the power amp in jack. If that restores the sound, then the power amp jack needs service to its cutout contacts.
