| Peavey Classic VT 212
I was getting ready to put a couple of new 6L6s in my Peavey Classic VT and got out my handy dandy bias tool I just bought. Took the chassic out and I couldn't find the bias pot. Are these manual bias or cathode bias? How do you adjust the bias on them or do you not have to? Help, Hippybilly |

There is no adjustment. Plug in the new tubes and play. They will run cooler than the mystical 70%, but that power amp is loud, strong, and clean. The tone comes from the preamp. |

I had a feeling that you'd be the one that would answer this and I was right. Thanks so much. I kinda figured when I couldn't find a pot to tweak that it might be cathode biased. I've had this thing for several years and always loved the phaser on it. I could get that Alabama (the group) sound out of it. I did notice awhile ago that the tubes I had to put in it were Sovetech 6L6WXT+. I bought them years ago when I knew nothing about tubes at all hardly. I don't remember what the WXT stood for. I sold this amp today and it had a pair of mismatched 6L6s in it and I thought I'd stick this set of matched tubes in for the guy. Gona miss this ole amp. You know that most of these amps I have seen have all been nonworking and most of the time I believe it was because of the transformers being blown or something to do with the transformers. Do your remember why they had so much transformer problems by any chance? Thanks for helping me out Enzo. I'd like to visit with you about my favorite all time amp that I would like to get going again. Ampeg V4B. One of these evenings I'll holler at you about it, It;s been so hard teaching myself electronics, But surely I;ll figure it out one of these days, Thanks again, Hippybilly |

It is not cathode biased, it just is not adjustable. It is designed to run reasonably well on MOST tubes at a moderate bias level. I am unaware of any transformer problems with these. Peavey transformers are usually pretty robust, and I see VERY few failures. I suspect a lot of tube amp guys are baffled by the solid state portion, and don't fix it. |
