| Position of volume control in circuit
Greetings! I'm attempting to restore an old Silvertone 1457 amp-in-a-case. The signal runs straight from the input jack thru a 27K resistor to the 100K volume pot and then to the preamp tube. Would there be any benefit in shifting the volume pot to after the preamp tube, as in most guitar amps? Many thanks! |

Sure it would. Right now it isn't a volume control, it's a gain control. Gain changes the tone pretty much, it's about the same, as turning the volume on your guitar. If it's after preamp, the sound will be the same all the time, but the volume will be different.
