Transformers - What to do with spare tap?

Hey all,

I just got my first kit and I have a dumb question.

The PT has taps for 240v and 120v. I only need 240v. The layout doesn't show what to do with the 120v tap.

So what should I do with that spare wire?

P.S. Oh there's no voltage selector in the circuit or anything either.

If your primary has a simple tapped winding - in other words three wires: neutral, 120v, 240v - and you need the neutral and 240, then just park the unused 120v wire somewhere. Solder it to an unused terminal on a terminal strip, or snip off any stripped portion, then cover the end with heat shrink tubing and tie wrap it to some other wires from the transformer so it doesn;t flop around.

Some dual voltage transformers have a split primary - two 120v windings. You wire them in series for 240 and in parallel for 120. That means four wires. It is critical they be wired in correct phase in this case since otherwise they would buck each other and fuses will blow.

It definitely has 1 x 240v and 1 x 120 so Ill heat shrink it and tie it up.
