I have noticed that the topic of covers comes up with a certain amount of regularity. While I don't have any ABS lying around, there is a roll of Polytrichloroethylene which, when heated with a heat gun and pressed into a simple wooden form gave good results. I was then able to use Krylon Paint on the Inside - no wear issues. And since matte finish seems to be the preference here, I even too the PoC one and hit it with 1500 grit quickly.
