  • Homebuilt Tube Amp Cabinet with modded Pacemaker amp

I found this little Pacemaker amp (a Bell Audio amp from around 1958) from a yard sale, recapped it, new tubes and built a cabinet for it and used hardware from an old Peavey amp that I scrapped. I wanted a vintage tube amp for cheap. I'm a part time woodworker, so I added some inlay to the top for my signature "lightning note" and made a cool little lightning bolt for the power lamp. I built the cabinet out of what we call here is PA "Kentucky Coffee", which is black locust.

It has tone all day, the sound is better than anything I have played in stores for years. I even like it better than my Music Man 2x12. I used the Peavey speakers, so I may update them at some point, although I think they sound great as is.

I have $20.00 into this amp, amazing how much sound an old '58 tube amp can put out.

This is my first post, look forward to being part of the forum. I would like to build my own tube amp from scratch some day. I actually like building the cabinets more than the amp part, and I do furniture inlay as a part time gig.

Let me know what you all think...

That looks awesome. I bet it sounds fantastic. I am in the process of doing something very similar. Converting two PA amps from the 60's to guitar amps.

Would love to here a clip.
