  • Voice of Music 160 conversion to modified 5E3 Circuit Help

    Hi,
I got a hold of a nice VM160 with an original jensen 10" speaker, the cabinet is in great shape also. So the amp has 2 inputs and 2 volume and one tone control, 5Y3, 2-6v6, 12AY7, 12AX7. I thought that this would be a great conversion project and after reading an interesting article here http://courses.physics.illinois.edu/...5E3_Deluxe.pdf I thought I'd see if I could make the conversion.
Well, I've run into a snag. The amp makes a loud whistling sound when I turn up the volume and tone on the second channel and the first channel sounds okay but I can hear some distortion as the notes decay.
I'm including a copy of the schematic from the inside of the VM160 which shows that this amp has a 5 wire OT secondary with a negative feedback loop that ties into part of the secondary OT windings thru a 10K resistor. I have not connected these in my build of the 5E3 because I didn't know what to do with them.
Any help in trouble shooting this would be greatly appreciated!
    Dave
