Ah yes, the cheap Peavy clones
This one had low output to the output tubes caused by a weak 2N5459 FET that I replaced and replaced R25 3.3K with a 10K pot to bias the Fet and now it has full output.
I'm getting an odd problem from the volume pot, when turned all the way up at the last 1/8" turn, the signal clips into some nasty ugly waveform.
I replaced C5 and C8 2uf coupling caps, no change
If I install a 1K resistor between the pot and C5 it prevents that stage from being turned all the way up, preventing that nasty clipping, but there's a slight volume dip when the volume is fully up.
I'm going to replace the pot (it tracks fine) as it has some scratchyness to it, even after cleaning and will replace Q1 and Q2 to see if they are breaking down
Any other reasons for that stage freaking out that I'm missing?
Thanks.
Shame, it has four holes punched for preamp tubes, this could be a decent amp with a tube preamp.
