  • Garnet Studio prototype (Schem & questions)

I recently picked up a prototype amp that Gar Gillies (Garnet) "designed". It's dated 2006 and was probably one of the last amps he was working on. It's a single ended EL34 champ style amp. Supposedly, it was to be a "Studio" amp.

It sounds good, has quite a bit of headroom and the simple tone control is effective. There is a slight hum, nothing to bothersome. I am concerned about the OT as it looks like it has taken too much heat on the side that takes the plate and power supply voltage. (540v/512v !)

I traced the amp and am wondering if the design is OK. I would be interested in suggestions for a replacement OT and any comments on the design itself.

    Thanks!, here's the schem.
